Sennheiser’s MirrorBox Shines at Sydney’s Vivid Festival

If you were in Sydney during May and June, you might have caught a glimpse of something magical in Tumbalong Park. Over 23 days, 6,826 visitors flocked to experience Sennheiser’s dazzling MirrorBox installation at Vivid Sydney, the largest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. For those lucky enough to step inside, it wasn’t just about seeing the lights—it was about hearing, feeling, and discovering a whole new world of sound.
What is the MirrorBox?
Imagine a giant, square disco ball reflecting the lights of Sydney’s bustling business district. That’s the MirrorBox—Sennheiser’s shining contribution to Vivid Sydney, a festival known for celebrating creativity, technology, and innovation. As one of the festival’s main sponsors, Sennheiser brought the power of sound to life, creating a must-see attraction that captured the attention of thousands. By day, it stood tall and shiny, and by night, it transformed into an immersive journey.
A Journey Through Sound
So, what exactly happened inside the MirrorBox? This free, interactive experience took visitors on a three-part audio journey. It started with an AI analysis of each person, followed by a custom-tailored audio experience, delivered through Sennheiser’s premium MOMENTUM 4 headphones. The finale? A personal playlist designed to reflect each visitor’s unique audio identity. It wasn’t just about listening to music—it was about understanding how sound connects to our emotions and who we are.
One visitor, Duncan Harvey, who attended the opening night with his wife Jasmin, described it as “being blasted out of where you were coming from and being taken on a trip.” Jasmin chimed in with a laugh, saying, “I could have had a deck chair and headphones on for longer. And a drink!”
For others, like Chris Rivera, the experience was simpler but just as profound: “I travelled,” he said, summing up his emotional journey in just two words.
The Power of Sound Meets Humanity
The theme of this year’s Vivid festival was ‘Humanity’, and Sennheiser’s MirrorBox fit right in. The installation explored how sound influences our emotions, helping us connect with ourselves and the world around us. As Anne-Claire Costes, Sennheiser’s VP of Marketing & PM, explained:
“We are thrilled to showcase how true sound can influence emotions through the MirrorBox. We believe that sound is integral to our emotional experiences and personal stories. Our installation at Vivid Sydney offers visitors a chance to reflect on the sounds that surround them and discover more about themselves and each other.”
